Brazil’s Defense Ministry has extended the deployment of the Armed Forced in Operation Brazil Green 2 until April 30, 2021. Initiated in March, the operation provides assistance in preventive and repressive efforts against environmental violations in the Legal Amazon—a territory in Brazil comprising all of the states of Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima, and sections of Mato Grosso, Tocantins, and Maranhão.

In addition to prioritizing the fight against illegal deforestation, Operation Brazil Green 2 subsidizes plans in border areas, indigenous territories, federal conservation units, and other areas within the Legal Amazon.

Operation Brazil Green 2 is spearheaded by the vice-president’s office, in support for environmental control and public security agencies. Among its collaborators are the Federal Police and the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural (IBAMA).
