The Brazilian National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) published in the Official Gazette on December 23, a public call for the migration of open TV channels to satellites operating in the Ku Band.

The 5G change - mentioned in the public notice on the standard of the fifth generation of mobile connectivity - occurs because the television signal received by satellite dishes occupies one of the satellite transmission bands in which the standalone 5G - or pure 5G - operation takes place, the so-called Band C.

Open signal

According to rules established by Anatel, entities that transmitted an open and free television signal in the band from 3,625 megahertz (MHz) to 3,700 MHz until September 27, 2021, must adapt themselves, as well as all broadcasting concessionaires that also operate in this frequency.

Companies that meet the requirements must comment and notify the regulatory agency by January 24, 2022, to undertake the migration. Rules for the process can be accessed here.
