Mostra anticipates the centenary commemoration of the Week of Modern Art
After a visit to Rio de Janeiro, the Brasilidade Pós-Modernismo exhibition arrives today (5) in São Paulo and is open to visitors at the Banco do Brasil Cultural Center (CCBB), in the central region of São Paulo. The exhibition can be visited until March 7, 2022.
Curated by Tereza de Arruda, works by 51 Brazilian artists will be exhibited, among them Adriana Varejão, Anna Bella Geiger, Arnaldo Antunes, Cildo Meireles, Ernesto Neto and Tunga, among others. The exhibition opens a dialogue with the Week of Modern Art of 1922, whose centenary will be celebrated in February of next year.
“This exhibition is not designed with a historical perspective, but focused on the present, with works produced from the mid-1960s to the present day, some of which are unpublished, that is, already with a historical distance from the beginnings of Brazilian modernity ”, described Tereza de Arruda.
Drawings, paintings, photographs, sculptures, installations and new media will be presented, which were distributed in six thematic nuclei, called Freedom, Future, Identity, Nature, Aesthetics and Poetry. In the first, Liberdade, the exhibition will reflect on the concerns and questions of Brazilian colonialism from the period 1530 to 1822. Futuro, in turn, focuses on Brasília and brings together, among other things, engravings and drawings by the architects Lina Bo Bardi , Lúcio Costa and Oscar Niemeyer.
The Identity nucleus investigates the so-called deep Brazil and, Nature, warns about the relationship between human beings and nature. Estética reflects on Brazilian cultural movements, such as antropofagia. Finally, Poetry presents works of concrete poetry.
In addition to the exhibition, CCBB São Paulo will promote a series of free activities at the CCBB Educativo Program's Living Space. The visit to the exhibition is made through an appointment on the Eventim website . Admission is free.
