The Brazilian government on Monday (Mar. 7) ratified a treaty that shall foster the movement of people within the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), through the grant of visas and residence permits.

During the ratification ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal, Brazil´s Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos França has met with CPLP Executive Secretary Zacarias Albano da Costa.

The agreement was signed in July last year, during the 13th Conference of CPLP Heads of State and Government held in Luanda, capital of Angola. On the occasion, Brazil was represented by Vice President Hamilton Mourão. The agreement was later approved by the Brazilian National Congress.

"The Agreement will bring Portuguese-speaking citizens even closer together, it is another step towards consolidating CPLP as a true Community," a statement written by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on social media reads.

CPLP includes nine countries: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and East Timor.
