Brazil operators given another 60 days for 5G implementation
Brazil’s National telecom authority ANATEL today (Jun 2) approved a 60-day extension in the deadline 5G internet signal implementation in all state capitals.
The start of operations in the 3,300–3,700 MHz radiofrequency sub-band had been scheduled for June 30, and the activation of a base transceiver station (BTS) for every 100 thousand people in the capitals should have started on July 31. Now, the deadlines are August 29 and September 29, 2022.
The decision was motivated by the impossibility of delivering the equipment as a result of restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in China, which delayed semiconductor production, in addition to the delayed release of products and limitations in air transport. Mitigation of interference at satellite stations was also taken into account.
