After more than 125 deaths caused by heavy rains across the metropolitan region of Recife, capital of Pernambuco state, in northeast Brazil, the downpours are likely to continue until next Thursday.

On Monday (Jun 6), the National Center for Monitoring and Natural Disaster Warning mentioned the possibility of moderate urban flooding in Pernambuco’s Zona da Mata region as well as the city’s metropolitan area, where people forced from their homes have surpassed 11 thousand.

Over the weekend, the state government announced a special allowance for the state at BRL 1,500 for the families affected registered in federal government's registry for social initiatives.

The city of Recife has also announced a BRL 1 thousand aid for families in the registry who live in risk areas recognized as such by the Civil Defense. In addition, the housing allowance offered by the municipality should see an increase from BRL 200 to 300, with financial help from the city.
