The São Paulo International Film Festival is reaching its 46th edition, showcasing 223 titles from 60 countries. The city’s most traditional cinema event is once again taking place in person and should offer film lovers a wide range of flicks for two weeks in theaters and open spaces, as well as online platforms Sesc Digital and Spcine Play.

The event started Thursday afternoon (Oct 20) and should run until November 2. Among the highlights of this edition are The Eight Mountains, by Felix van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch, winner of the Jury Award at the Cannes Festival, in France. From the same festival, the winner of this year’s Palme d’Or, Triangle of Sadness, by Ruben Östlund, was selected for the event and is expected to be screened three times.

From the Berlin Festival, movies Alcarràs, by Carla Simón, which won the Golden Bear, and Korean The Novelist’s Film, by Hong Sang-so, winner of the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize, are part of the showcase.

Of all the features to be aired over these two weeks, 67 are Brazilian. Some of them will have special presentations, such as national classic Black God, White Devil (Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol), by Glauber Rocha, restored from the original 35mm negative.

In addition to the screenings, the festival is also holding another edition of the Meeting of Ideas, including book launches and debates about the audiovisual industry. Eight titles should also be shown in virtual reality.
