The Rio de Janeiro city hall is registering 10 thousand self-employed vendors to work on the streets during Carnival festivities, which should start informally on February 18 and last until February 21. Registration has started online and should continue until next Thursday (Jan. 12).
The 10 thousand openings will be occupied at random, with lots being drawn electronically on February 13. The selected vendors will be called by e-mail and SMS for an in-person interview to ascertain compliance with the requirements.
Next, they must collect their kits—including a uniform vest, a cooler, and identification—and attend a lecture on trade rules, basic legislation, and the work of law enforcement.
