Brazil’s national territory increased by 72.2 km² in 2022. The expansion can be found in a document released Wednesday (Mar. 29) by statistics bureau IBGE. The study adjusts the country’s total area to 8,510,417.771 km².
The increase is said to stem from new international border delineations in the states of Amazonas, Rondônia, Mato Grosso, and Mato Grosso do Sul.
New laws, court rulings, and technical reports by government agencies responsible for the political and administrative division of states provided as the basis for the upgrade.
