Lula “extremely satisfied” with six months in office
When taking stock of the first six months of government, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said Tuesday (Jun. 13) he is “extremely satisfied” with the work done so far. In his first live broadcast on social media, entitled Conversa com o Presidente (“Conversation with the President”), he stated that the government has worked harder than ever, as it found “a destroyed country.”
“Reforming and rebuilding is much more difficult than doing something from scratch. Since we had a huge amount of public policies that had been successful, we decided to recreate these public policies, starting on July 2—a great program for national development, with infrastructure works across all areas.”
During the transmission, Lula said he found some 14 thousand construction projects stalled when he took office back in January—4 thousand in education alone. “Brazilians have to be a little patient, because there’ll be no fake news in our government.”
“Frankly, I’m extremely satisfied. I’ve been combined trips in the country with trips abroad, because we need to bring the capacity of Brazil’s domestic market back. Brazil was crippled in international politics,” he declared.
Expectations
“We’ll work hard because Brazilians have a lot of expectations. They want jobs, they want wages, they want quality education, they want to have spaces for leisure, they want access to culture. And all of this is included in our plans to recover the country by 2026.”
