Brazil’s Minister of Transportation Renan Filho said Monday (May 6) that the reconstruction of sections of federal highways destroyed by the recent rains in Rio Grande do Sul state alone should cost over BRL 1 billion.
“The ministry’s work to restore the federal highways should probably exceed BRL 1 billion,” the minister said during a meeting attended by federal and state representatives from Rio Grande do Sul and federal officials this morning (6) at the Rio Grande do Sul Legislative Assembly.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Minister Filho added, is expected to issue a provisional measure granting extraordinary budget credit to cover expenses resulting from the climate catastrophe.
