Brazil was ranked the globe’s fourth largest domestic flight market in 2024, representing 1.2 percent of the world’s total, according to a ranking by the International Air Transport Association.

The new position, the Ministry of Tourism reported, reflects a recovery in the number of domestic passengers after the pandemic and shows that the sector is following the same pace as other countries, such as the US, China, and Japan, which lead the global ranking.

The domestic market’s growth this year was above the world average, at 6.6 percent, the ministry state. The world average growth stood at 5.6 percent. From the beginning of the year up to July, the association said, Brazilian domestic flights had 44 million passengers.

Data from Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency shows that, in September, 80 percent of the approximately 10 million tourists flew to domestic destinations.
