Brazil and Spain negotiate agreements on Mercosur and Internet security
Brazilian Foreign Minister Luiz Alberto Figueiredo and Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation José Manuel García-Margallo mentioned on Tuesday (Mar. 8) in Madrid the importance of the commercial ties between the two countries and restated their commitment to facilitate negotiations between the European Union and Mercosur with a view to establishing a partnership between the two blocs.
In a joint statement, the ministers recognized that the amount of trade between the two countries is already significant, but noted there is still great potential to expand it and add product variety. Spain ranks second among countries investing in Brazil, which, in turn, is the top target for Spain’s investments overseas.
Figueiredo and García-Margallo have committed to work in close collaboration on Internet governance. They mentioned the importance of the Global Multistakeholder Meeting on the Future of Internet Governance scheduled to take place on April 23 and 24 in São Paulo.
A seminar on cyber security for permanent representatives to the United Nations is expected to take place March 20 to 23 in Madrid.
