Arthur Zanetti wins gold in Pan-American men's rings
Brazilian gymnast Arthur Zanetti won a gold medal in rings in the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada. He was Olympic champion in London 2012; world champion in Antwerp, Belgium, 2013; and South American champion in Medellín, Colombia, 2010, and Santiago, Chile, 2014.
At his performance Tuesday (July 14), he scored 15,725, slightly below the 15,800 he earned at the team event, a qualifier for the apparatus finals. But that did not stop him from winning gold, with runner-up Donnell Whittenburg, USA, scoring 15,525, and Manrique Larduet from Cuba, 15,450.
Other gold medals came to Brazil on Tuesday, starting early with Isaquias Queiroz in canoeing C1 200 m. This has been his second gold medal, following a C1 1,000 m win the day before.
The next gold came with Leonardo de Deus on men's 200 m butterfly, breaking the competition record with 1m55s01. Matheus Santana, João de Lucca, Bruno Fratus and Marcelo Chierighini added more gold on men's 4 x 100 m freestyle relay.
Judo athlete Luciano Correa beat Canada's Marc Deschenes at the men's -100 kg final. In the +100 kg event, David Moura beat Ecuador's Freddy Figueroa to bring another men's judo gold home.
