In a message posted on Twitter, Brazil's interim President Michel Temer deplored the terrorist attack which left more than 80 dead and dozens injured in Nice, Southern France, on Thursday (Jul. 14). “It is deplorable that on the day that immortalized fraternity as a motto of the French people (July 14, the French National Day), an attack took the lives of so many citizens,” he wrote.

After Temer's Twitter message, the Planalto Palace, which houses the presidential office, released an official statement on the attack, in which Temer condemned the action against innocent civilians as “horrific and outrageous” and said the episode will not undermine the liberty, equality, and fraternity ideals celebrated by the French nation.

“These murderers will not fulfill their intent. Rather, they will only strengthen the ties between free countries, which seek equal status among the nations of the world. And fraternity will continue to guide our nations. Today, more than ever, we are all French. We are brothers and sisters in pain and solidarity with all the dead and wounded, their families and friends,” the note read.
