Government expects Brazilians to leave Gaza “soon”
The Brazilian government expects that new lists with names of the foreigners authorized to leave the Gaza Strip will include the group of 34 Brazilians who have been waiting in the south of the enclave for over 26 days to leave the Palestinian territory.
“New lists will be published soon and our Brazilians should be on them,” said Alexandro Candeas, head of the Brazilian representation in Ramallah.
On Wednesday morning, a group of 450 foreigners were allowed to leave the Gaza Strip for the first time since the start of the current hostilities in the Middle East on October 7.
The authorization for foreigners to leave comes after the intensification of conflicts and the advance of the Israeli military into the Gaza Strip by land.
Brazilian Hasan Rabee, 30, who has been waiting 26 days to depart from the Gaza Strip with his wife and two daughters, expressed his disappointment that the Brazilians were not yet on this first list.
“The foreigners have left Gaza and the Brazilians are still being held. Where is Brazilian diplomacy and the government in terms of pressure on Israel?” he wrote on a social network.
West Bank
On Wednesday, the Brazilian representation in Ramallah, in the West Bank, carried out another stage of operation Voltando em Paz (“Returning in Peace”) and rescued 33 Brazilians who had expressed an interest in leaving the region.
They left 11 West Bank cities for Amman, the Jordanian capital, where they are due to board a flight to Brazil.
