Lula: Progressive alliance in France serves as inspiration
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva celebrated the results of the French elections on Sunday (Jul. 7). The left-wing New Popular Front alliance led in the parliamentary election count, surpassing both center and far-right parties. Thousands of people took to the streets of the French capital to celebrate.
"I am very happy with the demonstration of greatness and maturity by the political forces in France that have united against extremism in today's parliamentary elections. This result, like the victory of the Labor Party in the United Kingdom, reinforces the importance of dialogue between progressive segments in defense of democracy and social justice. They should serve as an inspiration for South America," said Lula.
In June, following the European Parliament election results, French President Emmanuel Macron dissolved the French parliament and called for new elections. In the first round, the far right gained significant attention and was expected to emerge victorious. However, this Sunday's partial count revealed an unexpected scenario, with the left leading ahead of the center and far right.
