Brazil “concerned” about Israel’s attack on Iran
The Brazilian government said it sees the Israeli air strikes against Iranian territory with concern. In a statement released Saturday (Oct. 26), the Ministry of Foreign Relations stressed it “condemns the escalation of the conflict and renews its appeal to all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint.”
“Brazil reiterates its conviction regarding the need for a broad ceasefire throughout the Middle East and once again calls on the international community to use all diplomatic instruments at its disposal to contain the deepening of the conflict,” the note reads.
The text also says the Brazilian Embassy in Tehran monitors the situation of Brazilians in Iran and maintains permanent contact with nationals in the country.
Israel attacked military facilities in Iran on Saturday morning, but in retaliation for an Iranian attack this month, Israel attacked military buildings in Iran. The Israeli military said that dozens of jets completed three waves of attacks before dawn against missile factories and other sites and warned Iran not to retaliate.
Iran, in turn, reported its air defenses reacted successfully to the attack, but two soldiers were killed and some sites suffered “limited damage.” A semi-official Iranian news agency promised a “proportional reaction” to the Israeli attacks.
