Brazil electoral court joined by new allies against disinformation

Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court and the Movement Against Electoral Corruption—MCCE in the original acronym—on Tuesday (Jul 19) signed a cooperation agreement to fight misinformation in the 2022 elections.

The move incorporates the 70 associations making up the MCCE into the court’s permanent program against disinformation.

For the duration of the partnership, the MCCE agrees to promote the debate on democracy, human rights, and the role the electoral authorities, as well as to raise awareness about the harm caused by the illegal practice of spreading false content.

The program comprises 154 registered associations and is joined by major digital platforms, including Google, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp, and TikTok, in addition to fact-checking agencies, political parties, news outlets, and telecom corporations.
