Justice Cármen Lúcia, of Brazil’s Supreme Court, was sworn in this morning (Aug 25) as a full member of the country’s Superior Electoral Court, tasked with conducting the elections.

She is already expected to attend Thursday’s plenary session. Cármen Lúcia was elected yesterday (24) in a symbolic vote held by her fellow Supreme Court justices to occupy the position of full member of the country’s highest electoral court.

Last week, Justice Edson Fachin, head of the electoral court, left his post vacant. Cármen Lúcia already held a seat as substitute judge.

The other Supreme Court justices occupying a seat at the electoral court are chief Justice Alexandre de Moraes and Justice Ricardo Lewandowski, second in charge.

The Superior Electoral Court is made up of seven full members—three Supreme Court justices, two judges from the Superior Court of Justice, and two lawyers appointed by the president.
