The head of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) Minister Alexandre de Moraes met on Wednesday (Aug. 24), in Brasilia, with the 27 commanders of the Military Police of all Brazilian states and the Federal District (DF). The purpose of the meeting was to discuss security concerns regarding the 2022 Elections.

The meeting of the Electoral Court`s direction with the Military Police commanders is unusual. Minister Moraes became head of the court last week, and the meeting yesterday was one of his first appointments scheduled by him.

According to some participants, the meeting was scheduled at the last minute in Moraes' agenda on Tuesday (Aug. 23).

At the meeting, all 27 commanders expressed their opinion about the local security conditions for the 2022 Elections in their states, and explained the plans for the voting days on October 2 (first round) and October 30 (second round, if any).

According to the commanders themselves, the meeting shows a concern for the Electoral Justice due to possible episodes of violence before, during, or after the elections. There are also fears about possible deviations in the behavior of the troops, who in recent years have been increasingly involved in political issues. This year, for example, there is a record number of military police candidates. The event was also considered a demonstration of recognition of the work of the Military Police.
