Brazil`s National Council of Justice informed on Wednesday (Jan. 11) that 1,418 people are detained due to terrorist acts carried out in Brasilia, on Sunday (8). The organ is responsible for centralizing information about the detainees.

Of the total number of prisoners, 222 were detained at the Square of the Three Powers and 1,196 were at protest encampments, in front of military headquarters.

For humanitarian reasons, 599 rioters have been released without having to testify, among them elderly and homeless people, as well as mothers with children, and people with health problems.

The Supreme Court has created a task force to hold court hearings among detainees that should last until next Sunday (15). They are being carried out by federal judges, and sent to Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who will decide on the maintenance of arrests.

Earlier, the government’s Public Defender's Office defended the release of vulnerable people and the substitution of warrants of arrest by precautionary measures, such as prohibition to leave their states of origin, to assemble at military units, use social media, and keep in touch with other demonstrators who are not relatives.
