At least six parties are yet to name their presidential candidates and running mates for the upcoming general elections on October 5. The deadline for the announcement is June 30.

The ruling Workers’ Party (“PT”) is expected to launch Dilma Rousseff’s re-election bid at their primary convention, scheduled for June 21. On the following day, the Socialism and Freedom Party ("PSOL") is set to disclose their candidates as well.

The Brazilian Democratic Movement Party ("PMDB") and the Democratic Labor Party ("PDT") are the parties which up to now have expressed their support for Dilma Rousseff’s re-election bid. Also, PMDB members have confirmed the appointment of Deputy Michel Temer as her running mate.

Last Saturday (14), the Brazilian Social Democracy Party ("PSDB") confirmed Senator Aécio Neves as their presidential candidate, but have not yet revealed the name of his mate.

On the same day, the Green Party (“PV”) named medic and sanitarian Eduardo Jorge as their candidate for Brazil’s head of state, along with his running mate Célia Sacramento, current mayor of Salvador, capital city of the northeastern state of Bahia.

A divided Progressive Party (“PP”) is to hold their primary on June 25 and will likely confirm their support for the current president’s re-election, but state representatives are free to choose other alliances.  Dissident PP members in the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais have decided to back PSDB’s decision.

The Communist Party of Brazil (“PCdoB”) are expected to officialize their support for PT during their convention on 27.

Eduardo Campos, from the Brazilian Socialist Party (“PSB”) and former Senator Marina Silva, from the Sustainability Network make up another presidential ticket, to be backed by three parties, whose conventions have been slated for 28.

The candidates for the offices of governors, vice-governors, senators and their alternates, as well as federal, state and district deputies will also have to disclosed by June 30, as determined by the Electoral Justice.
