President Dilma Rousseff's approval ratings have shown signs of recovery in the last quarter of 2014. Forty percent of Brazilians rated her performance as “excellent” or “good”, IBOPE reported in its poll commissioned by the National Industry Confederation (CNI) and released Wednesday (Dec. 17), an increase of two percentage points compared to the previous 38%.

The percentage of respondents who rated Rousseff's job as “average” rose from 33% in September to 32% in the latest poll, whereas “poor” or “very poor” ratings saw a slight decline from 28% to 27% in the period.

Moreover, 51% of respondents said they trust the president, compared to 45% in September. The percentage of the population who approve of Rousseff's personal style of administration was 52% – four percentage points above the 48% reported in the previous poll in mid-September.

As the strongest points in the Rousseff administration, respondents mentioned efforts to overcome hunger and poverty and investment in social programs. Issues raised by respondents include poor health investments and failure to take action against corruption.

IBOPE polled 2,002 respondents in 142 municipalities in the period between December 5-8.
