Brazil and Germany establish partnership in fighting hunger worldwide
Agrarian Development Minister, Patrus Ananias, and German Minister of Food and Agriculture, Christian Schmidt, issued a joint statement to step up the fight against hunger worldwide and enforce the right to food.
The document reinforces both countries' determination to promote sustainable production methods, responsible investments in agriculture and fair and secure access to natural resources such as land, forests and fishing grounds.
Minister Christian Schmidt pointed out that family farming is a strategy to improve food security. According to him, Brazil is an example, for it has implemented public and social policies and managed to be removed from the UN
world hunger map.
According to both ministers, Brazil and Germany have a common agenda, including agricultural cooperatives, agroecology and the right to food.
In Ananias' view, German technicians can help Brazilian farmers to increase and improve their healthy food production. According to Schmidt, Brazil creates many opportunities, but also challenges due to its territorial extension and natural resources abundance.
"We are on the 'same vibe'. I'm sure this cooperation will be extended to beyond this meeting. Our analyses are quite coherent with each other, and we both need solutions that go beyond the social, economic and ecological factors, "said Schmidt.
Minister Christian Schmidt has traveled with German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, on her official trip to Brazil.
