Rousseff: change in economic staff does not alter long-term goals
President Dilma Rousseff said that the change in the economic staff does not alter long-term goals, "which are to restore fiscal balance, reduce inflation, eliminate uncertainty, and urgently recover growth." She swore in Finance Minister Nelson Barbosa, and Planning, Budget, and Management Minister Valdir Simão, in a ceremony on Monday (Dec. 21) at Palácio do Planalto, the presidential office.
"The task of ministers Nelson Barbosa and Valdir Simão is to immediately captivate the Brazilian society holding the belief that fiscal balance and economic growth can and must go together. In fact, they provide the basis for new medium- and long-term measures and reforms to go through a supported and long-lasting expansion cycle," declared the president.
Rousseff praised the work of the former minister Joaquim Levy, who attended the ceremony, as head of the Finance Ministry. "Joaquim Levy showed great ability to act calmly and efficiently, even under intense pressure. In a troubled moment for the economy and politics, Minister Joaquim Levy overcame difficult challenges and add to the [country's] stability and governance," reported the president.
