Parties accused Rousseff of portraying herself as victim of a coup

Brasília - President Dilma Rousseff speaks to foreign media
Leaders and presidents of 15 parties that voted for advancing President Dilma Rousseff's impeachment case, on April 17, accused this Tuesday (Apr. 19) the Brazilian head of state of portraying herself as victim of a coup for the foreign media. In a note, the parties declared that Rousseff "reversed her position as author to be victim" and they "vehemently" repudiate the "sad spectacle staged" by her during a recent interview with the foreign media.
In the document, the parties said that during the interview the president tried to disqualify the "sovereign decision of the Chamber of Deputies" that observing the rules established by the Supreme Court authorized "the case with allegations made against her for a crime committed to advance."
"The president insisted on the error of mislabeling as illegal and coupist the deputies' action. The impeachment was endorsed by the Brazilian Supreme Court," read part of the document.
Party leaders explained that the Chamber of Deputies authorized the Senate to move forward with the proceedings and prosecute the president. She will have the inherent right of self-defense at the Senate. "The president disregards being accused of having committed one of the biggest crimes that can be committed by a head of state, of which the victim, in the case, is the nation. To defend herself, she reverses her position as author to be the victim," read the statement.
