Women, members of social movements and trade unions, went to Palácio do Planalto, the presidential office, Thursday morning (Apr. 7) to express their support to President Dilma Rousseff against impeachment proceedings. In the event, called “Meeting of Women to Defend Democracy”, the president was received with shouts of "In my country, I have faith because it is ruled by a woman" and "There will not be no coup, there will be struggle."

Among the meeting's participants, there were female members of some of the most important social movements, like Margaridas' March, which brings together peasants in Brazil's Northeast Region, the Central Workers' Union (CUT), World March of Women, Black Women's March, and others.

Some ministers have also attended the meeting, like the Minister of Social Development and Fight against Hunger, Tereza Campello; the Environment Minister, Izabela Teixeira; and the Secretary for Policies on Women's Rights, Eleonora Menicucci, who was Roussef's prison mate in the 70s.

In the last two weeks, Rousseff received the support of lawyers, intellectuals, artists, and social movements defending her mandate at the presidential office.

On Thursday (Apr. 6), Deputy Jovair Arantes delivered a report in favor of the president's impeachment to the special committee of the Chamber of Deputies that is examining the impeachment case against President Dilma Rousseff.
