Teori Zavascki, the justice in charge of Operation Car Wash investigations in the Supreme Court (STF), ordered Deputy Eduardo Cunha to step aside from his role as the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies and from office as a lower house member. His ruling, announced today (May 5), is an injunction granted to Prosecutor-General Rodrigo Janot.

Cunha has just been notified of the court decision, according to his aides.

The deputy speaker, Waldir Maranhão (Progressive Party), will take over his role as the presiding officer of the lower house.
