Brazil interim president congratulates Peru president-elect
Brazil's Interim President Michel Temer phoned Peru's President-elect Pedro Kuczynski Friday (Jun. 10) morning to congratulate him on winning the election. Kuczynski launched the Peruanos por el Kambio (“Peruvians for Change”) movement, and was elected in presidential run-off with 50.12% of the vote. His rival, Keiko Fujimori, member of the Fuerza Popular (Popular Strength) party, received 49.88% of the vote.
The election results were released Thursday (Jun. 9), four days after the votes of the run-off were cast, when the polls from abroad were added to the total.
The electoral process, which took place on June 5, received recognition and had been monitored by missions from various organizations already working in the country, like Organization of American States (OAS), European Union, and Union of South American Nations (UNASUR).
At the moment he was notified about the result, the president-elect thanked the votes received and called all Peruvians to "work together for the future of Peru."
