Brazil's ousted house speaker's wife charged in Car Wash probe
Federal Judge Sérgio Moro filed today (Jun. 9) a complaint against Cláudia Cordeiro Cruz, wife of Brazil's ousted lower house speaker Eduardo Cunha, brought by prosecutors of Operation Car Wash task-force.
According to the Federal Prosecution Service (MPF), the complaint was brought based on crimes of money laundering and tax evasion "involving money from a criminal scheme established in Petrobras International Board. After the complaint was filed, Cláudia Cordeiro Cruz was charged on probes.
According to the MPF, investigations indicate that Cunha's wife was aware of the crimes committed and that she is the only controller of the bank account in the name of Köpek offshore, in Switzerland. The account was used to cover credit card expenses abroad.
Argumentation
According to the complaint, Cláudia Cordeiro Cruz was aware of the crimes committed and credit card expenses abroad, paid by Cláudia Cruz, totaled more than $1 million for a 7-year period and were completely incompatible with the income and equity declared by Eduardo Cunha.
