President Michel Temer visits former president Lula, offers condolences
Brazil's President Michel Temer visited former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at Hospital Sírio-Libanês in São Paulo on Thursday night (Feb. 2) to offer his condolences for the death of Lula's wife Marisa Letícia Lula da Silva.
She was pronounced brain dead earlier on Thursday, and had been hospitalized since January 24 with a hemorrhagic stroke.
Temer arrived along with the new president of the Senate, Eunício Oliveira, former Brazil president José Sarney, as well as ministers and senators including the former president of the Senate, Renan Calheiros.
Over the day, Lula received condolences from former president Fernando Henrique Cardoso, former ministers from his own two administrations as president of Brazil, and senators and deputies from different parties.
According to Hospital Sírio-Libanês, tests made on Thursday morning detected the blood flow in Marisa Leticia's brain had ceased. “ With the result, the hospital initiated the procedures for organ donation, with her family's authorization,” the latest report read.
