The Senate approved an urgency motion on the floor in the early evening of Tuesday (July 4) to discuss the bill on the labor reform. The request had 46 favorable and 19 opposing votes. The bill will be in the order of business for next Tuesday (11).

Earlier, party leaders had agreed a procedure to discuss the bill at Wednesday's (5) and Thursday's (6) sessions. With the urgency request, the bill will be given priority in the voting agenda.

The government has advocated a change in Brazil's labor legislation as a way to restore fiscal balance, increase investment and revive confidence in Brazilian economy.
