One day after the lower house rejected the second round of charges against Temer, the president published a video on social media saying Brazil had its “institutions dramatically put to the test over the last few months,” adding that “in the end, the truth won.”

Temer thanked the lawmakers who reaffirmed their commitment with the government in the vote Wednesday (Oct. 25), and said that now is the time to focus on what interests the Brazilian people. He went on to stress that the bridge to the future under construction is “solid, firm, and resistant.”

The president also mentioned the recovery of economic growth after a period of recession and the drop in inflation and interest. “Work has defeated the recession. Perseverance defeated fear,” he added.

The lower house voted 251-233 to reject the request filed by federal prosecutors to bring President Michel Temer as well as Chief of Staff Eliseu Padilha and Secretary-General Moreira Franco under investigation.
