Brazilian presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro stabbed
Brazilian presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro was stabbed this Thursday (Sept. 6) during a campaign event in the city of Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais state (Southeast Brazil).
Police authorities confirmed that the candidate was taken away from the scene by his supporters and is being treated at a local hospital. The attacker, identified as Adelio Bispo de Oliveira, was arrested.
Initially, Bolsonaro’s son, Flávio Bolsonaro, wrote on Twitter that his father was stabbed and was not at risk of dying. “Jair Bolsonaro was assaulted right now in Juiz de Fora, a knife stab in the abdominal region. Thank God, [the cut] was superficial and he is doing fine.”
However, later, also on Twitter, Flávio Bolsonaro said that the episode "unfortunately was more serious than we thought." Bolsonaro's son gave details on the extent of the wounds and the organs affected. "The puncture hit part of the liver, the lungs and the intestine. He lost a lot of blood, and came to the hospital with low blood pressure, almost dead," he wrote. Flávio Bolsonaro said that his father "seems to have stabilized", though.
