Citizenship, Regional Development ministers confirmed
Lawmaker Osmar Terra was tapped on Wednesday (Nov. 28) by advisers in the government transition to lead the Ministry of Citizenship and Social Action. The ministry will be in charge of social programs like the Bolsa Família and the secretariats in the current Ministry of Labor, Human Rights, and the Women’s Secretariat.
Terra was Social Development minister under Michel Temer and left his post to run for re-election. He was named by the social caucus in Congress.
President-Elect Jair Bolsonaro also announced Gustavo Henrique Rigodanzo Canuto, executive secretary with the National Integration Ministry, to lead the Ministry of Regional Development.
The ministry is yet to be created, and should bring together the responsibilities of the National Integration Ministry and those of the Ministry of Cities.
If all duties of the ministries to be extinguished are incorporated, Canuto is expected to administer major programs like the Minha Casa Minha Vida affordable housing initiative, and plans linked to efforts against droughts and infrastructure for water resources.
