Bolsonaro hopes pension reform is not “dehydrated” in Congress
In a statement made today (Mar. 7), Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro said he hopes the overhaul in the country’s pension is not “too much dehydrated” by Congress. The piece of legislation has been submitted to the lower house and awaits the formation of special commissions so proceedings can begin. Changes have already been suggested by party leaders during a meeting with the president last week.
“We need to do a reform in the pension system. After all, its deficit is appalling. […] We plan to have the submitted reform approved, but the Parliament is sovereign and may make changes to it. We just hope it doesn’t get too dehydrated, so it can meet its goal on funding for investment, health care, security, and education,” Bolsonaro said.
The president talked about the topic on a live Facebook broadcast. Bolsonaro was joined by Augusto Heleno, head of the president’s office for Institutional Security (GSI), and his spokesman Otávio do Rêgo Barros. The president said he intends to make a live broadcast every Thursday at 6:30 pm and hear questions posed by other users.
