The ministers of Foreign Relations from the member countries of Brics—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—are gathered in Rio de Janeiro to discuss the main topics on the global agenda.

Brazil’s Chancellor Ernesto Araújo welcomed the guests at the Itamaraty Palace, in downtown Itamaraty.

In attendance were Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, China’s Wang Yi, South Africa’s Naledi Pandor, and India’s vice-Minister for Transport Vijay Kumar Singh. In the afternoon, bilateral meetings will be held at the Marriott Hotel, in Copacabana.

Brazil currently holds the bloc’s rotating presidency, and is therefore charged with spearheading activities, presenting cooperation initiatives and organizing close to a hundred meetings. The main assembly is the 11th summit meeting, to take place in Brasília on November 13 and 14.
