The Head of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Luiz Fux said on Monday (Aug. 1), in his speech at the opening session of the court´s second semester, that the institution expects candidates to respect their opponents during the campaign for the October elections.

"The Federal Supreme Court expects that all candidates for the various elective positions respect their opponents ... It also expects cordiality during the debates and, above all, peace so that we can end the 2022 election cycle without incident," he said.

Fux also added he expects the elections to be marked by tolerance for differences and institutional stability.

He also congratulated ministers Edson Fachin and Alexandre de Moraes, President and Vice President of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) respectively, for their work carried out in the body, and expressed his support for Brazil´s electoral system.

"Our democracy has one of the most efficient, reliable, and modern electoral systems in the world, thanks to its transparent, understandable, and open Electoral Justice system that is open to all those who wish to contribute positively to the fairness of the electoral process," he stated.
