Head of Supreme Court: Brazil democracy strengthened by elections
The head of the Federal Supreme Court Justice Rosa Weber said Brazilian democracy has been strengthened by the elections. In the first session of the Court on Thursday (Oct. 3), after the second round of elections, Weber congratulated the Electoral Justice for conducting the election so well.
For her, the popular will has been respected. The Electoral Justice has ensured the normality of the election and legitimized the results of the voting process. "Our democracy was strengthened, our democratic institutions were strengthened, and our democratic rule of law was strengthened, which the Supreme Court will continue to defend as the guardian of our Constitution," she said.
During the court session, head of the Superior Electoral Court Alexandre de Moraes, who is also a member of the Supreme Court, said voters have shown their confidence in the Electoral Justice and in the electronic ballot boxes.
According to Moraes, in less than three hours after the end of the voting process in the second round, about 123 million votes were counted and the result was proclaimed.
The justice also pointed out that all international missions that acted as observers of the elections attested to their transparency.
"The elections are over. The elections ended on Sunday and the result was proclaimed. Democratically, the people chose Brazil´s president and vice-president, as well as governors. By December 19 they will be certified, and on January 1 they will take office. This is a democracy, and democracy has won again in Brazil," he added.
