President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva defended unity among people to end "family fights" motivated by political polarization. He demanded respect for the laws and the Constitution and a good relationship with the National Congress. "I will make the most important relationship with Congress that I have ever made," assured the president, at the opening of the first ministerial meeting, this Friday (6), with the presence of the 37 ministers, at the Planalto Palace, in Brasilia.

In this sense, the president asked that the parliamentarians be well attended in all ministries. "We don't command Congress, we depend on Congress, and therefore, each minister has to have the patience and the greatness to attend well to each congressman and senator," he added.

Lula said that if this doesn't happen, the government will hear what it doesn't want when it needs votes to approve important matters. "We have to know that we are the ones who have to maintain a good relationship with the National Congress. It doesn't matter if you differ from deputies and senators. When we talk, we are not proposing marriage", he stressed, saying that the alliances can be temporary in issues that interest the people.

Still on the relationship with the Congress, despite having demanded commitment from his team, the president said that, if necessary, he will also personally enter the field with the parliamentarians.

"I have already been in the Presidency for eight years, and I would like to say that this time you don't have to worry because you will have a president willing to make all the necessary talks with political parties and leaders", he emphasized.

The President of the Republic reminded the team [of ministers] that many of them are the result of political agreements. "It is no good having the most technically Harvard-educated government possible and not having a vote in the House and Senate," he said.

Agribusiness

Still talking about relations with important sectors, in another moment, Lula mentioned the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Favaro. According to him, "real agribusiness entrepreneurs know the need for production without needing to offend or enter the Amazon forest or any biome".

Goals

Before the meeting began, in a message posted on Twitter, the president said the goal of the meeting is to "organize the work. I am optimistic about the beginning of the government. We got the house badly taken care of, but we are already working because our responsibility is very big with the Brazilian people", he wrote.

The main agenda of the first ministerial meeting included the goals for the first 100 days of government. Lula's opening speech - which lasted 20 minutes - was open to the press, and the meeting was closed.
