Brazil will have its largest delegation ever competing at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games with 462 athletes (209 women and 253 men). The second largest Brazilian delegation consisted of 277 athletes (132 women and 145 men) in Beijing 2008.

The individual sports in which Brazil will be represented by the largest number of athletes are athletics (67) and swimming (33). Record numbers of Brazilian athletes will also compete at team sports including handball (28), water polo (26), and football (36).

“Brazil is more prepared than it has ever been before, and that will be matched with an absolutely record-size Olympic delegation for the country,” Bernard Rajzman, head of the Brazilian mission, said on the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) website.

The delegation includes some Olympic stars like gymnastics ring champion Arthur Zanetti. Modern pentathlete Yane Marques, a bronze medalist in London 2012, also stands good chances of emulating her good performance at Rio 2016. Canoe sprint racer Isaquias Queiroz and judo athlete Sarah Menezes are also highlights.

Brazil will make its first Olympic appearance at some sports, including trampoline gymnastics, badminton, field hockey, golf, and rugby seven. As the host country for the 2016 Olympic Games, Brazil is eligible to compete at all sports in the 2016 games.
