Following complaints from the public, the Rio 2016 Committee has hired food trucks to expand eating options at the Barra Olympic Park, west Rio.

The limited food outlet choice at the park has led to long queues and delays getting to the competition arenas.

According to the organizing committee, 25 food trucks would be operating next to the arenas by Monday night (Aug. 8) providing a variety of meals.

Rio's Executive Secretary for Government Rafael Picciani said the Public Order Secretariat has authorized food trucks to operate at the Olympic Park, expanding spectators' choice of places to eat: “[The food trucks] have been authorized. The local government has contributed with the formal licensing details, but that's really the responsibility of the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee.”

The state consumer protection agency (PROCON) has filed a claim against the organizing committee for issues accessing the competition venues and eating hassles.

At Barra Olympic Park, some spectators missed the start of the competition events because of the long entry queues. As for Deodoro Olympic Park, according to PROCON, the delays were caused by the spectator checkpoints having only one X-ray scanner available. There were no food outlets at the Sambadrome and the Maracanãzinho indoor arena, the agency said.
