Influenza A (H3N2) has caused five deaths in Rio de Janeiro state this year. In 2020, one fatality was reported, and two in 2019. The data were disclosed by Rio de Janeiro’s State Health Secretariat, based on information from the Sub-Secretariat for Surveillance and Primary Health Care.
In the last few days, the city of Rio has been faced with an influenza epidemic, with over 20 thousand cases of this influenza strain in recent weeks.
As a result, the city stepped up vaccination efforts and opened up special centers for treating the disease.
