Brazilian authorities can reduce the quarantine period for asymptomatic patients contaminated by the Omicron variant of the new coronavirus from 10 to five days, reported this Friday (Dec. 7) Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga.

According to the minister, this Friday he shall meet with technical staff from the ministry of Health to discuss this matter, as well as to analyze the possibility of allowing health care workers who have tested positive for the variant, but do not show any symptoms, to be part of the front line to treat patients with COVID-19.

“If I'm not mistaken, CDC [USA Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] has already given this recommendation [to reduce isolation of asymptomatic patients with Omicron]. The French government is even authorizing health care workers who tested positive to serve on the front line, due to the high number of cases. So, we’re analyzing this now”, he added.
