Health Minister: Brazil has not reached peak of Omicron variant
Brazil’s Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga wrote on his Twitter account on Saturday (Feb. 5) that Brazil has not yet reached the peak of the new wave of COVID-19 caused by the Omicron variant. The new variant has been in Brazil for about two months, and at the end of January, 300,000 daily cases of infections have been reported. "Assessing the last epidemiological week in the country, we had an increase in cases caused by COVID-19 and we have not yet reached the peak of the wave caused by Omicron. The fight against the disease continues", Queiroga reiterates.
According to the Minister of Health, the ministry monitors the pressure on the public health system and the occupation of intensive care unit (ICU) beds. He explained that more beds can be arranged if necessary.
On his account, Marcelo Queiroga also emphasized the importance of vaccination so that cases have milder symptoms.
