Over 34 thousand medics apply for Brazil’s “More Doctors” program
Brazil’s Mais Médicos (“More Doctors”) program had 34.070 medics applying for the 5.970 vacancies currently offered. The figures were released Thursday (Jun 1) by the Health Ministry. The total number of applicants is the highest ever since the creation of the initiative in 2013.
“Thirty-eight applications were initiated, with 34,070 showing full documentation, so they start picking two Brazilian cities today,” said Secretary for Primary Health Care Nésio Fernandes.
The deadline for applications, with priority given to Brazilians graduated in the country, ended Wednesday (May 31). Brazilians trained abroad and international doctors were also allowed to sign up. These will continue to occupy spots not taken by doctors with domestic registration.
Of the 34,070 applicants, 30,175 are Brazilian. The data also show that 19,652 hold a Brazilian registration; 10,523 are Brazilians with registration overseas; and 3,895 are international physicians registered in another country.
“We understand that the improvements implemented have matured the process and should allow new editions and tenders to make Mais Médicos a major state strategy,” Secretary Fernandes declared.
