Dilma Rousseff hospitalized for inner ear inflammation

The president of the BRICS bank, Dilma Rousseff, has been hospitalized in Shanghai, China, due to an inflammation of a nerve responsible for balance, which causes intense vertigo.
According to a statement from her press office, Brazil’s former president is responding well to treatment and should be discharged in the next few days.
“Dilma Rousseff is doing well and has maintained her work activities during the period she has been hospitalized. The president is grateful for the messages of support and solidarity,” the note released on Tuesday morning (Feb. 25) reads.
The condition
Rousseff is hospitalized at the Shanghai East International Medical Center to treat vestibular neuritis, an inflammation of the vestibular nerve, which is responsible for connecting the ear to the brain.
When inflamed, this nerve can interfere with the way information is interpreted by the brain.
In most cases, vestibular neuritis is caused by viruses, and its symptoms are often confused with those of labyrinthitis.
