Port areas auctioned for over $35 mi in São Paulo, Paraná states

Approximately $37 million was won in the auction of three areas at the ports of Santos, in São Paulo, and Paranaguá, in the southern state of Paraná. The auction was held this morning (Aug. 13) at São Paulo stock exchange B3.

At the Santos port, the first area was won for $28.14 million by Hidrovias do Brasil. The company won exploration rights for 25 years of three warehouses connected to the wharf by conveyor belts in a total area of 29.3 thousand m² for the transport of salt and fertilizers. The government expects the new concessionaire to bring in $54.87 million in investment.

Competition was fierce, with several bids announced on the loudspeaker. The original bid by Hidrovias do Brasil had been $16.26 million, but was raised to compete with new offers from Aba Infraestrutura and by Consórcio TRH.

The second area at Santos was auctioned to Aba Infraestrutura for $8.75 million. Its competitor, Empresa Brasileira de Terminais, had its bid disqualified as it had a number of other assets in the same portion of the port, so Aba’s was the only valid offer. The area, with 38. thousand m² is designed for liquid transport—like chemical products, ethanol, and oil-derived goods. The government estimates investments totaling $27.69 million in improvements.

With a sole $250 thousand bid, Kablin won a 27.5 thousand m² area for general freight transport at the Paranaguá port. Investments should amount to $21.76 million.
