The Libertadores Cup final between Flamengo and Athletico-PR will be the fifth in history between two Brazilian teams. After defeating Vélez Sarsfield (Argentina) 2-1, on Wednesday night (Sep. 7) at the Maracanã stadium in Rio, Flamengo will dispute with Athletico-PR the title of the continental competition on October 29, in the Monumental stadium of Guayaquil (Ecuador).

The last continental decision between two Brazilian teams was won by Palmeiras, who beat Flamengo 2-1, in extra time, on November 27, 2021, at the Centenario stadium in Montevideo (Uruguay).

In 2020 Palmeiras also won the title, beating Santos 1-0 at the Maracanã stadium.

The first edition of the Libertadores Cup with a Brazilian final was in 2005 when São Paulo (SP) beat Athletico-PR. A year later, SP sought the continental title again, but Internacional won the trophy.
